BJP on the offensive on ‘fake students’ at Rahul Gandhi’s Indore event, demands action against Congress leadership

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh BJP has accused the Congress of staging a “scripted political fraud” at Rahul Gandhi’s recent student interaction in Indore, alleging that some of those presented on the platform as ordinary students were in fact office-bearers associated with the Congress and its student wing, NSUI.

In a strongly worded statement, BJP Madhya Pradesh general secretary Rahul Kothari alleged that the event, billed as an interaction reflecting the “voice of students”, was instead an attempt to manufacture a political narrative by presenting party functionaries as students.

“This was not the real voice of students but a scripted political fraud prepared by the Congress,” Kothari said, alleging that the episode amounted to a betrayal of students and young people in Madhya Pradesh.

The BJP leader demanded an immediate apology from Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari and Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar. He also called for action against those allegedly involved in presenting party functionaries as students and questioned the responsibility of the Congress leadership, including Rahul Gandhi, for what he described as a deliberate attempt to mislead young voters.

The allegations, if substantiated, could add another layer to the increasingly sharp political contest between the BJP and Congress over the youth vote in Madhya Pradesh. The BJP has sought to portray the episode as evidence that the Congress lacks genuine support among students and is therefore resorting to staged political interactions.

Kothari also linked the controversy to an earlier dispute involving Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan, alleging that the Congress had previously relied on what he described as a similar “false narrative” in her affidavit. He claimed that the latest controversy showed the party continuing to employ the same political strategy.

The BJP statement comes amid heightened political attention to student politics following the Delhi University Students’ Union elections, where the BJP-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) secured all three major posts. Kothari cited the result as evidence that students and young voters were increasingly aligning themselves with “nationalist thought, positive politics and the vision of a developed India.”

The Congress has yet to publicly respond to the BJP’s specific allegations concerning the identities and organisational affiliations of the people who appeared on the platform at the Indore event.
