Leh: Ladakh has been awarded Geographical Indication (GI) status for 8 traditional products, strengthening the protection, authenticity, and recognition of the region’s unique knowledge systems and craft traditions.
The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena made this announcement through a post on the global microblogging and social networking X platform on Saturday. He described it as a historic milestone for Ladakh’s artisan communities.
Looms of Ladakh Women Cooperative Limited is honoured to have served as the official applicant for 5 of these recognised products, the LG said in his post.
