New Delhi: Three weeks after his release from prison in Bangladesh, Islamist leader Muhammad Jasimuddin Rahmani, sentenced under the anti-terrorist law, has made inflamatory calls for the secession of Jammu and Kashmir from India.
Rahmani’s anti-India rhetoric came days before the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s outburst against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the democratically elected Government in India on foreign soil. The Congress leader began his three-day visit to the US, arriving in Dallas, Texas, on Sunday, 8 September 2024. It is also important to note that eyebrows have been raised over the US diplomats’ outreach to Opposition leaders in India and also the role of the Deep State in unseating the democratically elected Government of Shaikh Hasina in Bangladesh.
Rahmani, is chief of the Al Qaeda affiliated, radical Islamist organization Ansarullah Bangla Team. He was in custody in Bangladesh charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act for advocating the murder of kafir (non-believers). The Bangladesh Interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus granted bail in terrorism related cases, and released Rahmani in August exposing it’s jihadi/Islamist agenda.
Rahmani has sought support from radicals in Pakistan and Afghanistan for “his diabolic cause”. In a viral video, Rahmani issued warnings to India, claiming Bangladesh would retaliate in alliance with China if provoked, and urged the “Seven Sisters” (the north-eastern states of India) to join a freedom movement.
Rahmani’s message, recorded from what was perhaps a room in a hospital, included an appeal to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, asking her to declare independence from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rule. He also promised that forces aligned with Khalistani extremists would support the division of India, aiming to create a separate “Khalistan” in Punjab.
Rahmani has expressed solidarity with Khalistani activists, encouraging them to rise up and push for Punjab’s separation from India. He emphasized that this was the moment for the Khalistan movement to take action across various Indian provinces.
The radical Islamist leader’s video has sparked outrage, with his inflammatory rhetoric aimed at destabilizing India by leveraging external powers and extremist groups.
