Bhopal: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on Thursday 3 July reaffirmed his government’s unwavering commitment to women empowerment, safety, and participation in democratic processes.

Dr Yadav was ddressing a State-Level Women’s Mock Parliament held at People’s University.
The Chief Minister highlighted the pivotal role of women in governance and society, noting that Madhya Pradesh has set progressive benchmarks in gender representation and legal reforms for women’s safety.
The Chief Minister emphasized that Indian culture places women in the highest regard. “Our government is taking every possible measure for women’s empowerment. Today, key administrative posts—such as SP and Collector in Narsinghpur, the Divisional Commissioner of Shahdol, and even the Chief Secretary in the recent past—are held by women,” he said. “Madhya Pradesh was the first state to introduce the death penalty in rape cases, underlining our zero-tolerance stance on crimes against women,” he added.

The event was inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Chief Minister in the presence of Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Smt. Savitri Thakur, State BJP President Shri Hemant Khandelwal, BJP Organization General Secretary Shri Hitanand Sharma, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Shri Vishwas Kailash Sarang, Minister for Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare (Independent Charge) Smt. Krishna Gaur, Bhopal Mayor Smt. Malti Rai, Member of Parliament and former State BJP chief Shri V.D. Sharma, Rajya Sabha MP Smt. Maya Narolia, and Director of People’s Group Shri Mayank Vishnoi. A large number of girl students from colleges across the state participated in the program.

The Mock Parliament, organized by the BJP Mahila Morcha to mark the 50th anniversary of the Emergency (1975), served as a dynamic platform to foster awareness among youth about constitutional values, civil liberties, and the resilience of India’s democratic framework. The Emergency period, often referred to as a dark phase in the country’s democratic journey, was central to discussions during the session.

Dr. Yadav engaged directly with participants, initiating discussions on topics ranging from the Emergency to constitutional amendments, Article 370, triple talaq, counter-terror operations, and the philosophical legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for his contributions to preserving democratic values during trying times.
Describing the Mock Parliament as an “ideological forum,” the Chief Minister stressed that safeguarding the Constitution and democratic principles is the responsibility of every citizen. “Such events deepen young minds’ understanding of the nation’s political processes and historical turning points,” he said.
During the ceremony, the Chief Minister also honored former MISA detainee Shri Tapan Bhaumik with a Tulsi plant and an angavastram in recognition of his contributions during the Emergency.
The State-Level Mahila Mock Parliament emerged not just as a tribute to history but also as a platform for critical engagement, civic learning, and empowerment—especially for young women poised to shape the future of the nation.
