Mumbai: Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan, on Wednesday formally invited the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance to form the state government, clearing the way for Devendra Fadnavis to take office as Chief Minister for a third term.
This development came after the alliance, which includes the BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), submitted the necessary documents to stake its claim.
Fadnavis confirmed the development during a press briefing in Mumbai, announcing that the Governor had accepted their claim and extended an invitation to form the government. He also revealed that the oath-taking ceremony would take place at Azad Maidan in Mumbai on Thursday at 5:30 pm. The alliance partners have also formally pledged their support for Fadnavis to assume the Chief Minister’s post.
Earlier in the day, BJP legislators in Maharashtra had unanimously elected Fadnavis as the leader of their legislative party. During a meeting in Mumbai, senior BJP leaders, including Chandrakant Patil and Sudhir Munguntiwar, proposed Fadnavis’ name, which was promptly seconded by Pankaja Munde and other party members, securing his path to the top leadership position in the state.
