Siliguri: The book “Flash Point Galwan”, co-authored by two Army Veterans, Col. Mani K. Gahatraj (Retd.) and Lieutant.Col. Kaushik Sircar (Retd.) was launched here on Sunday 27 August 2023 . Hailing from Kalimpong, Col M.K Ghataraj is an Army veteran and a well-recognised writer. He has authored the following books:-

  • Wandering Along the Himalayan Foot Hills & Beyond-A Veteran’s Travelogue”, (2015)
  • The Indomitable Rhino Warriors of India’s North East-History of the Assam Regiment” (Co-Authored 2016)
  • Wandering in the Mist of the East (2019)

“Flash Point Galwan” is Col Gahatraj’s fourth book and it delves into the issues that culminated into the Galwan clash. The book also highlights the troubled relationship between India and China post the conflict.

Mrs Shanti Ranapal, the author’s sister, graced the occasion as the chief guest at the book launch event.

“Flash Point Galwan” was officially launched by Mrs Shanti Ranapal, Maj. Gen. BD Rai, Dr. Sonam Wangyal, Capt TK Dewan, IAS, S.K Gazmer, Ms.Gayatri Rai and Commodore Kamal Rai.

The book launch was followed by a book discussion where the esteemed group of panelists gave their valuable insights into different aspects of the books and discussed its meaning and significance as well as its relevance in present times.The panelists for the book discussion were:-

  • Mrs Gayatri Rai, Principal & Trainer in Himalayan English School and Group study exchange member to USA from Rotary International
  • Capt. T.K Dewan, IAS, (Retd), Former Chief Secretary, Andhra Pradesh (Undivided), Former MLA, Darjeeling
  • Comodore Kamal Shamsher Rai, UYSM (Retd), Indian Navy Former Commander Submarine Force, Former Military Attache of India to Pakistan.
  • The session was skillfully and eloquently moderated by Preeti Brahmin, author of “Ratanlal Brahmin: The Red Lion of the Hills”.
