Bhopal: The State Tiger Strike Force of Madhya Pradesh swung into action on receiving intelligence inputs from national Wildlife Crime Control Bureau and succeeded in nabbing the infamous international tiger hunter and smuggler Adin Singh alias Kalla Bawariya near Gyaraspur on Vidisha-Sagar highway on 18 August 2023.
Forest department and police teams in many different States responded to alert issued by the Government of India against large-scale poaching and have seized huge quantities of tiger skins and bones in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Assam and Meghalaya and many members of the Bavariya gang have been arrested.
To avoid his arrest, Kalla Bavariya was living in a makeshift camp in the Vidisha-Sagar area of Madhya Pradesh.
There are cases of tiger poaching and smuggling of its body parts against Kalla Bavariya in many States of the country and also in neighboring Nepal. For the past several years, the police and forest departments of a number of states, besides the Nepal Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) were looking for Kalla Bavaria.
Kalla’s arrest, will reduce pressure and help the initiative for conservation and protection of tigers not only in Madhya Pradesh but across India. It is an important milestone in the direction of stopping organized crime involving poaching tigers and smuggling of its skin and body parts.
Kalla Bawaria was produced before the Special Court, Narmadapuram for Forest Remand. Information regarding other members of the Kalla Bavariya gang and crimes committed by it is being collected from other states and neighboring countries.
