The Board of Directors of Vedanta Limited has approved the appointment of Arun Misra as Executive Director of the Company, effective from August 01, 2023, until May 31, 2025, on the superannuation of Sunil Duggal, the Whole-Time Director & CEO.
Arun Misra is currently the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), a subsidiary of Vedanta Limited.
Distinguished scientist and Founder Chairman of SISIR Radar and former Director Space Applications Centre, Tapan Misra, the elder brother of Arun Misra, broke the news about his brother’s appointment as CEO of Vedanta on social media with these words: “I am proud of my brother Arun for being appointed as ED of Vedanta Group. My parents, though barely crossed schooling themselves, were wise and self-taught enough to provide the best possible academic support to six brothers and two sisters, despite father’s meagre income and with utmost financial difficulty. I remember when he (Arun) obtained his first job in Jamadoba colliery of Tata Steel, he was slightly apprehensive of working in back breaking environment of underground colliery. Our seventh pass mother gave him only one advice – whatever you do with devotion, it will bring you success. He rose in the ranks to become Vice President of Tata Steel. He led the development of Kalinganagar Steel plant from scratch. Now he has risen to ED of Vedanta Group after driving HZL with record profitability inspite of difficult Covid years as its CEO. He is a classic example that one need not escape to foreign shores to achieve success by building some other country’s economy. You can reach great heights by rooting in India and by contributing to build Indian economy”.
