Call it FIR by Lalit Shastri: At 10:37 am while driving on the main road from Hanuman Mandir to 5 no. through Char Imli in the capital of the Central Indian State of Madhya Pradesh, one came across two Police vehicles, at least one with 3 stars and DGP level officers occupying the rear seats. None of them was bothered when their drivers drove full speed, one overtaking the other on the bend, as they joined the main road almost hitting my vehicle, which was coming straight on the main road and heading towards the 5 No square. My vehicle had the right of way. Who will tell these officers that they have to stop-look-and-go when joining the main road. I think these officers, who were certainly late for office and were overspeeding, should be booked for denying the right of way and jeaopardising the lives of others.

Comments are flowing in on the dismal State of affairs from all parts of the country. We are reproducing few of them below:
The problem, in my opinion, is that the Indian Central Services replicates the ICS. No expertise and no accountability. The ICS was accountable to the British India Office located in Whitehall London. Here the Indian Central Services have found politicians as a suitable refuge, who take the fall in elections. A classic case of ‘Chith bhi meri, Patth bhi meri, aur antaa mere baap ka’.
There will be apologist who would point to some names of people who were good, but remember one swallow does not a summer make.
There is an urgent need to revise the Constitution, Service Rules and AoB/ToB rules, if India is to rise as a major power. Need to bring the educated, specialists, technologists in the Legislative, Executive and open entry for judiciary.

“Bharat Raja aur Praja ka desh raha hai. Jo power me hai wo raja hai. Raja ka har karya aur uska vachan kanoon hai” (India has been the country of rulers and the ruled. Anyone in power is the king. Every action and utterance of the king is the law). Rule of law is an alien concept. Sad state of affairs without any chance of redemption.
