Ernakulam (Kerala): The Designated CBI Court, on Wednesday 31 May sentenced P.R. Vijayan, former Dy. Commissioner at Air Cargo Complex, Calicut Airport; his wife Vasantha and daughters Dhanya, Divya and Navya to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with total fine of Rs. 2.5 crore.

CBI had registered a case on 27 September 2006 against the accused on the allegations that P.R. Vijayan, while working as Dy. Commissioner at Air Cargo Complex, Calicut Airport and also holding additional charge of Dy. Commissioner Air Customs, Calicut Airport had amassed assets in his name and in the name of his family members including wife, 3 daughters. The assets to the tune of Rs. 79,93,859.00, were disproportionate to his known sources of income during the period from July 2003 to July 2005.

After investigation, a chargesheet was filed on 30 June 2008 against the accused. The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted them. Two accused were acquitted by the Court.
