New Delhi: Supreme Court of India on Friday 24 June 2022 dismissed a petition by Zakia Jafri, the widow of Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, who was killed during the violence in Ahmedabad, challenging the SIT’s clean chit to Prime Minister and then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and others in 2002 Gujarat riots.
A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar, passed the judgement.
Upholding the decision of magistrate in accepting the SIT report, the apex Court has dismissed the petition underscoring in its judgement “the appeal is devoid of merits and dismissed accordingly.”
The three-judge bench also comprising Justices C T Ravikumar and Dinesh Maheshwari on 9 December 2021 had reserved its judgement on the appeal.
