New Delhi: Vimala Sharma, wife of the late Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, former President of India, breathed her last on Saturday, 15 August 2020. She was 93.

President of India Ram Nath Kovind conveyed his condolences in a tweet. In his condolence message, the President said: “Sad to hear about the demise of Mrs. Vimala Sharma, wife of former President Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma. My condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu also condoled the death of Vimala Sharma. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also expressed grief at the sad demise.

Soft-spoken and down-to-earth, Vimala Sharma was a renowned social worker and was in the forefront always working for the uplift and empowerment of women, especially those from the weaker and deprived sections. She headed the Madhya Pradesh Social Welfare Board for many terms. She was also elected to the Madhya Pradesh Assembly from Udaipura in 1985.
