CBI team at the residence of P Chidambaram

New Delhi: The CBI Wednesday, 21 August 2019, arrested senior Congress leaders and former Union Minister P Chidambaram from his residence in the Union Capital.

Chidambar’s plea for anticipatory bail was dismissed by Delhi High Court on Tuesday. The Surpreme Court, which was approached by Chidambaram, turned down the request for an urgent hearing in connection with his request for anticipatory bail in the INX Media scam case. After that Chidambaram went into hiding.

On Wednesday , addressing media-persons at the AII India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters, Chidambaram said that he was not running from the law but was seeking shelter from Law. He further said that there is no case made out against him nor has he been charged in any corruption case.

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram’s son Karti on Wednesday lashed out at the CBI for arresting his father in the INX media case, saying it was a “totally politically motivated witch-hunt”.

Shortly after Chidambaram was taken to the CBI headquarters at around 9 pm, his son, Karti said the case was apparently about events that happened in 2008. “This is totally a politically motivated witch-hunt,” the Congress MP, who is an accused in the INX media case and out on bail, said.

Former Congress President, Rahul Gandhi, earlier during the day, said in a tweet: “Modi’s Govt is using the ED, CBI & sections of a spineless media to character assassinate Mr Chidambaram. I strongly condemn this disgraceful misuse of power.”
