Bhopal: Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and senior BJP leader Babulal Gaur passed away due to cardiac arrest Wednesday morning (21 August 2019), at a private hospital in the State capital.

Gaur (89) was suffering from old-age related ailments and was hospitalised.

Gaur was Madhya Pradesh chief minister from 2004-2005. He was a son of the soil, who had a humble beginning as “hammal”, a loader, at JK Straw Products factory in old Bhopal. Then as a committed RSS worker, he joined the activities of Rashtriya Mazdoor Sangh. Later at the behest of BJP patriarch, Kushabhau Thakre, Gaur started working among the workers in the BHEL township in Bhopal. His organisational capacity and popularity was recognised by the leaders of the erstwhile Jan Sangh and he was elected to the State Assembly for the first time in 1974.
