Pilibhit Tiger Reserve/Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): A 5-year old mature tigress was beaten to death by villagers in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday afternoon, 25 July 2019.

This mobile video, shot by a villager, gives a chilling audio visual account of the barbaric manner in which a matured tigress was surrounded by a mob of villagers and killed in a village in the Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh, about 250 kilometers from Lucknow after it had allegedly attacked a 19-year old villager on 25 July. A day earlier, it has been reported that the tigress had wounded nine villagers moving inside the PTR area.

Autopsy has revealed that the tigress sustained multiple fractures, including broken ribs, and deep cuts on being hit and beaten by rods and sharp-edged weapons.

A team of forest department staff had reached the spot about three hours after the barbaric incident.

An FIR has been registered by the forest department, over 30 persons have been identified and four have been arrested till now for involvement in this brutal attack

Pilibhit District Magistrate Vaibhav Srivastava has ordered a magisterial inquiry.The terms of reference of this probe includes the role of the forest officials in protecting or not protecting the tigress.
