New Delhi: Congress President Rahul Gandhi today, 3 July 2019, released a letter on Twitter announcing his resignation from the top party post.
Former MP Chief Minister and AICC Treasurer Motilal Vora is likely to be the interim Congress President.
Gandhi’s resignation was on the anvil after Congress party’s total rout in the Lok Sabha election. After he had expressed his desire to quit as Congress Preisdent, party functionaries had started offering their resignation to put pressure on Gandhi to continue. Party insiders close to Gandhi had however ruled out the possibility of Gandhi reconsidering the option to quit.
Gandhi, in his open letter has said, It is an honour for me to serve the Congress Party, whose values and ideals have served as the lifeblood of our beautiful nation. I owe the country and my organisation a debt of tremendous gratitude and love.
