New Delhi: Indian Women Compound Trio- V. Jyothi Surekha, Muskan Kirar and Raj Kaur bagged Bronze Medal defeating Turkey (229 – 226) in World Championship-Den Bosch.( Netherlands ) on Saturday
Chinese Taipei won the World Champion while the USA took the silver Medal.
Before losing to the USA in semi-final in a very tight match (227 – 226), India defeated France in pre-quarter final (236 -226) and the host -Netherlands (219 – 213) in quarter final.
Giving good performance in individual category, V.Jyothi Surekha crushed the challenge of Yasim Bostan (Turkey) in a tie breaker {145, 10 – 145, 9} who had better standing in qualification round (15th) and brought another Bronze Medal for the country.
Jyothi defeated Eva Ploszal of Sweden (141 – 136) in 1/48 round, Layla Annisar of Great Britain (143 – 142) in 1/24 round, Choi Bomini of Korea in 1/16 round (146 – 144), Ist ranked Tanya Jemen of Demark in a Tie-Breaker {146-146 (10, x /10, 9)} and Sarah Prieels of Brazil (147 Vs 141) in quarterfinal to meet Paige Pearce of USA in Semi-Final.
Jyothi lost to USA Archer (143 Vs 140) and went to Bronze Medal match.
President of Archery Association of India Arjun Munda expressed his pleasure over impressive performance of Compound Archers in the World Championship. He congratulated the Winning Archers for their superb show and accompanying officials for their untiring efforts.
Secretary General of AAI Virendra Sachdeva said that tomorrow is an important day when Indian Recurve Men team – Tarundeep Rai, Atanu Das and Pravin Jadhav will be fighting against China in final for World Champion’s Title.
