Jirapur (Madhya Pradesh): The Government postgraduate college at Jirapur in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh has become a highly respected educational institute and an important landmark in an otherwise barren landscape bordering Rajasthan under the leadership of Dr. G.D. Singh, the present head of this institution.

A “Milan Samaroh” (get-together) hosted jointly by the Jirapur college principal and Rakesh  Khajuria, the local Tehsildar, who is known in this area for his no-nonsense approach to official work, on Saturday was a trailblazer of an event that was attended by people’s representatives, saints,  prominent citizens, senior officials, academicians, prominent journalists and poets, who had travelled from different parts of the State, especially to attend this programme.

Prominent among those who attended this function were Sant Ramashray Maharaj of Kharpa,   local MLA Hajarilal Dangi, Director RUSA Kamlakar Singh, Former Director IGNOU K.S. Tiwari, Editor-in-chief of Newsroom24x7 and former Bureau chief of the Hindu in Madhya Pradesh  Lalit Shastri,  Professor of Hindi Anand Singh, Shailesh Tiwari, a journalist from Sehore who is known for his famous published commentary on “Hanuman Chalisa”, All the pujarais of temples here,  and Santosh Jain, a poet who enthralled the gathering with his crypt satire on politics.

Speaking on the occasion, Kamlakar Singh was all praise for the devotion and dedication of Dr Singh, who is on the verge of retirement. He described him as a perfectionist and a leader who believed in rewarding the duty bound and unsparing when it came to the delinquents in his team.  With positive and negative strokes for those working under him, he ensured discipline and maintained the quality of education in every college where he was posted as principal, he added.

K.S. Tiwari, recalled his long association with Dr. Singh and said he has contributed immensely in upholding the quality of education. Tiwari also underscored the need to bring about reforms in the education sector and underscored the need for skill development among students.

Lalit Shastri, used the opportunity to emphasise the need for revolutionising education so that the nation could compete with global advances. He spoke of his experiences as a journalist and expressed serious concern regarding lack of accountability and corruption. People expect that the media should project good things, he said adding media only tells the truth and conveys what’s happening around. He also pointed out that reservation and the quota system for the reserved categories in its present form and more particularly the 77^th, 81^st, 82^nd and 85^th Constitution Amendments leading to reservation in promotion is taking a heavy toll. It was his firm view that reservation system should be rationalised to include the poor irrespective of their caste or religion.
