New Delhi: Kamal Nath, former Uniom Minister and MP from Chhindwara, will now lead the faction-ridden main Opposition Congress for the general election to the Madhya Pradesh Assembly later this year.

Kamal Nath replaces, Arun Yadav, also a former Union Minister. He represents the legacy of his late father Subhash Yadav, who was a deputy Chief Minister and was the unquestioned leader of the cooperative movement in Madhya Pradesh. Arun has substantial following in the Khandwa-Khargone belt.

Nath’s appointment as the new Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee President was announced by Congress General Secretary Ashok Gehlot on Thursday (26 April 2018). Another Senior Congres leader Jyotiradtya Scindia has been appointed as Chairman of the Campaign Committee for the upcoming State Assembly election.

The Congress leadership has done a tight rope walk in formulating the top order of the Madhya Pradesh State party unit and In order to accomodate different warring factions within the State party unit, as many as four Working Presidents have also been appointed.

Jitu Patwari, MLA
