New Delhi: The Supreme Court today dismised a petition by the governments of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan urging the apex court to retrieve it’s earlier order against the decision taken by the two governments to ban the Leela Bhansali film, Padmavat, on the ground that it ‘distorts’ history and it’s screening could incite violence.

Responding to the request by the two BJP ruled states to retract its earlier order stopping states from banning the film, the judges hearing the matter said: “It’s an order, better abide by it. You (states) can advise people not to watch the movie,” said the judges.

“We passed an order and our orders are required to be complied by all,” Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra asserted.

Supreme Court has taken the view that the film has the approval of the censor board and hence it’s screening cannot be banned.
